FR NICHOLAS YAKUNIN
Father Nicholas Yakunin, a Russian Orthodox Priest for the village of Nikolaevsk, is the Captain of the St. Nicholas, a 56 foot long liner that can hold 60,000 lbs of fish.
Father Nicholas has a crew of 6 family members on board and is proud that his operation is all family. He also long-lines for black cod and pacific cod and after a few more local trips for halibut in area 3A he will switch to drifting for salmon. Six family member also have their own boats and permits and fish salmon in Cook Inlet.
Fishing Vessel: St. Nicholas
The St Nicholas is a US Fishing Vessel, run by Father Nicholas Yakunin. This vessel, a 56 foot long liner that can hold 60,000 lbs of fish with a total crew of six family members on board.
The fishing method used on the St Nicholas is longlining. This method favored by North American Commercial Halibut fishermen.
